Student Grants

One of the most popular types of student financial aid is the student grant or educational grant. Student Grants do not have to be repaid. There are two kinds of student grant programs; Pell Grants, occasionally called Basic Educational Opportunity Grants, which are need based, and Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grants (FSEOG), which are based on extraordinary need. Pell Grants are paid out at least once per term and can be as much as $4310 annually (effective July, 2007), depending on a student’s EFC, cost of tuition, and whether the student attends school half-time or full-time. In contrast with Pell Grants, FSEOG’s are not guaranteed for all eligible students. This type of grant is based on availability at each individual school and once the money is depleted, no more grants are awarded.
